Copley Crew
Copley Crew
Details
Since Tardy Donkey hails from Boston, we thought it was only fitting that our first woven label reproduction be a painting by Boston artist John Singleton Copley. Copley’s portrait of Mrs. Frances Tucker Montresor, C. 1778, was originally created on a Warner Woven Label in 1967.
Our Copley Crew sweatshirt is where art meets fashion. We framed the woven label with charcoal embroidery, and added a chain stitch along the shoulder seam. Made of French terry with our signature five x’s, this bit of art is totally wearable.
Want to see the original painting? It hangs in The Gallery of the diplomatic reception rooms located within the Harry S. Truman building of the US Department of State in Washington, DC
Wear it:
Pair it with your denim or wide leg trousers. Jadine loves it with pleated skirts and silver oxfords.
Size + Fit
Our Copley Crew is not your average college sweatshirt. It has a neckline that shows just enough of the collarbone, a tapered sleeve, and a subtle drop shoulder with charcoal stitch detail.
MODEL IS WEARING: Vanessa is 5’ 5” and she is wearing a size Small. Key is 5’ 7” and she is wearing a size Medium. Bernadine is 5’ 7” and she is wearing a size Large.

MATERIALS MATTER
Cotton French Terry
The French are everywhere... Our sweatshirts are made from 100% cotton French terry. The raw materials come from outside the USA but the fabric is woven and the pieces are constructed in Los Angeles. The end result is a beautifully soft loop texture on the inside.
French Laundry Labels
It’s all in the details and we love ours! We can’t get enough of the French laundry labels from the 40’s so we put them on our hoodie too. Can you guess what the labels were used for? You got it - identifying your laundry by your initials or a specific number. We repurposed these long-forgotten laundry tapes in our hoodie, giving each one a unique number and a link to the past. The colors are so very French and the original boxes they were packaged in are just as special.
Woven Labels
If some of our patches are reminiscent of paintings you’ve seen before, you definitely paid attention during that art history class. Our woven labels are reproductions of a reproduction - repro squared, we guess. The original vintage silk woven labels from Warner Woven Labels date from the 50’s through the 70’s. Depicting famous paintings, each one adorned a calendar, which were given to loyal customers as a thank you. We make clothes and not calendars, so consider this our take.
